About
I’ve been playing piano for ten years, and started teaching in early 2018. My instructing style is similar to the Bastien Method; I teach sight reading from the beginning, and introduce increasingly more difficult sheet music as the student progresses.
I always have my students play the staple classical pieces, but believe that letting them play music they enjoy - whether it be from TV, movies, or video games - is vital for growing a love of piano.
I’ve taught beginners, as well as kids who are already at an intermediate or advanced level. I also have experience working with children who have special needs.
She has made music come alive for my children. My girls have widely different learning styles and Lydia's teaching style has meshed with each one. Her method allows for children to progress at their own pace, not limited by checklists or preconceived notions. I was constantly amazed that my children advanced so quickly and played so confidently.
Lydia Carpenter is a skilled pianist and a wonderful teacher.
She has worked with my son for over a year and half and he has learned so much. She keeps him working at his challenge level, but makes it fun at the same time. She picks a variety of classical and contemporary music for him to play to keep things interesting.
She is a creative, talented and patient teacher.
Lydia has provided piano lessons for my two special needs children since 2018. Both girls have received piano lessons for a few years prior, but their instructor was not able to continue with lessons. When I met Lydia, we had a very pleasant conversation about my expectations and her approach to lessons. My kids needed someone who was patient and flexible to accommodate to their specific needs. Thankfully, Lydia put a lot of effort into identifying the best way to teach the girls, their strengths & weaknesses to ensure they get the best out of her instruction. Not only did Lydia provide refined lessons, but also highly customized music curriculum for each child. She knows exactly how to work with kids with different personalities, goals, and talents. What my kids developed through her piano lessons wasn't just techniques, but also self-confidence and appreciation for music.
She is simply amazing.
